It is definitely summer.

The temperature has been getting quite high in the North Bay recently. I love when the hills turn golden here in Northern California, truly the mark of summertime. Here is a photo I made earlier this month that captures a little of the spirit of summer around here.

Summertime, and the livin' is not always easy...

These are the longest days of the year. On winter nights, I often reflect that if it was summer, the sun would still be out! It can get difficult to find compelling landscape subjects in the summer here in California. Usually, there is not a cloud in the sky, which makes color photography a little more challenging for much of the day. Luckily, I am near the coast, and we can get some drama from the fog that often rolls in during the late afternoon, as can be seen in the attached photograph of Bolinas Ridge. I have entered this photograph in the Marin County Fair this week. I wonder how it will fare in this highly competitive competition venue? I'll let you know if it wins any ribbons.

Summer is about to begin...

A landscape photographer lives by the seasons, and when they change, a bunch of new opportunities present themselves that haven't been available for nearly a year. Sometimes the seasons "aren't normal", which causes a lot of problems (like this past winter), but this summer seems to be getting off to a good start. Summer is a good time to try "Blue Hour" photos, shooting at this time of day seems especially effective near the coast, as seen is this accompanying photograph. I can't wait to see what this new season brings...

I thought I would shake some of the cobwebs off this blog of mine by making a new post. I am in the rare situation of having edited all my photos (no backlog), so I am starting to utilize some of my social media accounts to let people know what's up, or to see some recent photographs. I have accounts on Flickr, Facebook, Google+, Pinterest, 500px, and Viewbug to name a few, not to mention my Twitter, Tumblr, and Instagram accounts. Feel free to search me out on those platforms to see what's new. When I started photographing in college, I could only share images by printing them or showing them in a slide viewer. My how times have changed.

Last month my gallery, Riverfront Art Gallery, was voted Best Art Gallery in Sonoma County by the readers of The Bohemian. This is the sixth year in a row that we have won this honor. I know this is April Fool's Day, but it is in fact true. Here is the link.



I will be reviving this blog in the coming months with content relating to being a fine art photographer. I hope it will be of interest.

Website Updates

I have updated my website with a new color-scheme, and have added 15 new images plus a "new" 2003 photo called "Grape Crusher". There is a new "Backstock" section which shows prints I have in stock, yet do not show. In the past when I took an image out of my bins and off my site, they disappeared. Now they are online and available at big discounts. Now that there is a process for smoothly retiring images, I have "retired" many more photos this month. For the past 10 years, I have primarily photographed the landscapes of the North Bay Area. I will continue doing that, but I am now expanding the primary area I am covering to include the entire state of California. At the same time, I am offering to take you along with me. My workshops are expanding to cover all of California and the workshop format is changing to have a more intense focus over a shorter time period. There are now also "Photo Tours" to take you to great places for an extended period to create great photographs. This new endeavor is called "California Photo Adventures". Gallery Awards

It has been awhile since I last posted, but in that time my gallery has won a few accolades. This year we were voted "Best of the North Bay 2012" for "Best Art Gallery in Sonoma County". In addition to that, we were voted "People Choice" for "Best Art Gallery in Petaluma", that is a new award for us. It tells us that we are doing something right. I have a lot more art news to share with you, I will blog about that in the near future.
